.....and off course there are the books like Bhagawat Gita and the Holy Bible that really really really make us think!
The 'Seat of the Soul' by Gary Zukav, and 'Conversations with God' I, II are the lighter thinking books.
I do agree 'A Course in Miracles' is an amazing book, the only way i can read this book is opening a random page, depending on what i seek that day, and the answer is always provided.
I had not heard of Illusions & the motorcycle maintenance... thanks for highlighting them.

Having the time and space to think is certainly one bonus of being on the road on a trip like you are having. Being able to think in the wide open spaces away from the usual day to day things we have to do would help a lot.
I continue to read about your trip on your blog. Sounds like you are having a great time. I will see if I can find Learning To Dance.

A book I read a long time ago came to mind while reading this post: Learning to Dance on the inside: getting to the heart of meditation by George Fowler. This book made quite and impact on me. He speaks of the process of contemplation as being a state similiar to meditation, just not as focused or as deliberate. I realised that I am a natural contemplater, and feel that this ability has helped me to process life's challengers and negotiate the peaks and troughs. Mike and I travelled from Adelaide to Port Pirie today and I found, once again, that being on the road takes me to the place of contemplation - it helps me gain clarity and also helps me process things that otherwise might be simply put on the shelf or suppressed.

Try reading The Completely MAD Don Martin. His comics are full of puns, onomatopoeia and weird, wobbly characters. He is sublime in his delivery of humour. I would also suggest Arrested Developmnet (the TV series). Amazing collaborative writing, a great production with the perfect cast, this shows slowly creeps up on you.

I too find it difficult to find a funny read. I think humour works much better in visuals, whether this be a performance, movie, TV, comic or spoken word.
